TROT
Therapy Services
Our out-patient pediatric therapy clinic presently offers occupational therapy
(OT) for children two to six years and physical therapy (PT) for children
and adolescents, in a holistic, natural environment. Our therapists use a combination of intervention strategies, including
hippotherapy, treatment using the movement of the horse. The walking horse provides a dynamic base of support, making it an
excellent tool for improving trunk strength, balance, postural control and stability, bilateral weight bearing, and motor
planning. In addition, the movement of the horse offers well-modulated sensory input to vestibular, proprioceptive,
tactile and visual systems. Our therapists are able to combine the effects of the equine movement with other standard intervention
strategies for working on fine and gross motor control, sensory integration, balance and postural control, feeding skills,
attentional skills, and functional daily living skills in a progressively challenging manner. Treatment that includes hippotherapy is especially engaging and motivating. Some of the conditions of the
children who are seen in our clinic include:
Autism Spectrum Disorder,
Learning Disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, Sensory Processing Disorder, Developmental Delay, Stroke, Genetic Syndromes, Traumatic Brain Injury
