Since 2006, TROT has collaborated with the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration to offer therapeutic riding services to injured US Veterans in the Tucson Region. TROT’s “Heroes on Horses” is one of the first programs of its type created at a PATH Premier Accredited Center!
Horses have a long history of being used in programs aimed at rehabilitating individuals suffering from emotional and physical wounds. Therapeutic riding is gaining popularity as an alternative therapy for service members and TROT has been at the forefront in providing a riding program for our deserving servicemen and women.
One of the many goals of the program is to reintegrate the service member into a calm, peaceful social environment. This goal is accomplished by enabling the service member to ride in a private or group session with a horse and instructor and gather after his/her ride at our weekly cantina. Over time, the service member’s confidence and ability to trust increases and they find empowerment in being in control of their equine partners.
The Heroes on Horses program never charges veterans for TROT services. TROT is grateful to generous donors who make this program possible.
